Step 5: Walk in Freedom
Scripture:“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1 Living Light After Letting Go
Forgiveness is a process, not a one-time event. It often takes time, prayer, and repeated surrender. But when forgiveness finally takes root, something powerful happens—something breaks off of you. You no longer feel tied to what happened or who hurt you. You stop carrying the offense, the bitterness, and the constant replay of what was said or done.
You begin to live lighter.
That’s the kind of freedom Christ offers. Not just freedom from sin, but freedom from the weights we were never meant to carry. Unforgiveness is one of those weights. It binds our hearts, clouds our vision, and keeps us anchored to the past. But Jesus came to set us free. And part of that freedom means refusing to let the pain of yesterday control the peace of today.
Walking in freedom doesn’t mean forgetting the pain. It means refusing to let it rule you. It means waking up and choosing not to be defined by the offense. It means declaring, “This will not have power over me anymore.”
There is joy waiting on the other side of forgiveness. There is lightness and peace and a sense of release that no apology or explanation can give. Only Jesus can do that. And He already made the way.
Don’t let what someone else did keep you bound another day. You were created to live free. Forgive for your own freedom. Forgive because Jesus already paid the price for yours.
