“You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.”Proverbs 19:21 NLTs.
What began as surrender in
Week 1…What was tested in waiting in
Week 2…What was strengthened through opposition in
Week 3…Now brings us to a deeper question:
What does it truly cost to follow God?
Because commitment, when it is real, will always cost you something.
The Cross Was Always the Destination
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people saw a King.
They laid down palm branches. They shouted “Hosanna.”They celebrated what they thought was victory.
But Jesus saw something different.
He saw the Cross.
He understood that His assignment was not just to be celebrated, but to sacrifice. Not just to be praised, but to lay down His life.
Jesus was not caught off guard by the Cross. He was committed to it.
Often times say we are committed to God, but many times our commitment is tied to comfort.
We are committed when:
It feels good
It makes sense
It is affirmed by others
But what happens when obedience becomes uncomfortable?
The Cross represents the place where:
Comfort is surrendered
Control is released
Pride is crucified
True commitment is revealed when following God requires us to give up something we would rather keep.
Jesus modeled this in the Garden of Gethsemane:“Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”Luke 22:42 NLT
That is the language of the Cross.
Prayer
Lord, teach me what it truly means to be committed to You. Help me to surrender not just in words, but in my life. When obedience feels costly, remind me that Your purpose is greater than my comfort. I choose to give myself fully to You, trusting that Your plans will prevail.
